Plant a Seed Read - 2026

Our 2026 Summer Reading Program, Plant a Seed, Read!, was filled with creativity, learning, and summer fun at Spirit Lake Public Library!

Throughout June and July, families enjoyed a variety of activities, including flower pot painting, fairy gardens, tie-dye, seed art mosaics, and other hands-on crafts. We welcomed special guests like the Circus Pop Giant Bubble Show, RAD Zoo, local author Stewart Chisham, and the Juggler with the Yellow Shoes. Children also enjoyed farm animal programs, egg hatching, themed storytimes, movie Mondays, STEAM activities, and outdoor adventures.

Reading was at the heart of our summer, with reading logs, scavenger hunts, and activities encouraging children to keep reading and exploring. Adults were invited to participate with reading logs of their own, too!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this summer a success! We loved seeing our community come together to read, create, learn, and grow.

Level Up at Your Library - 2025

Our 2025 Summer Reading Program, Level Up at Your Library, brought a summer full of discovery, imagination, and community fun to Spirit Lake Public Library!

Kids got creative with crafts like tie-dye, mosaic stepping stones, fused beads, and cardboard projects while enjoying STEAM activities, scavenger hunts, and movie days throughout the summer.

We had an exciting lineup of special visitors, including the RAD Reptile Zoo, magician Jonathan May, Dennis Porter’s Game Show, Boernsen Bees, and the Mush Dog Sled Program. From outdoor activities and engaging storytimes to author visits and our Carnival Night Celebration, there were plenty of ways for families to make summer memories together.

Along the way, young readers were challenged to keep their reading skills growing through reading and our Monopoly Board reading challenge. Thank you to all the families, performers, and community members who helped make the 2025 summer a wonderful adventure!

Read, Renew, Repeat - 2024

Our 2024 Summer Reading Program, Read, Renew, Repeat!, gave families plenty of reasons to visit Spirit Lake Public Library and try something new!

Children explored their creativity through tie-dye, canvas painting, recycled art, and cardboard creations while enjoying interactive storytimes, STEAM stations, scavenger hunts, and special themed activities.

The summer also brought exciting experiences, including visits from the RAD Reptile Zoo, Great Plains Zoo, Sam Rezz the Circus Performer, and the Dickinson County Nature Center. Families enjoyed outdoor adventures, live entertainment, Bluey-themed fun, and our summer bowling finale!

Young readers kept their minds active with weekly reading logs, the Emoji Challenge, and opportunities to earn prizes for their reading progress. We even extended the program into July to keep the summer reading momentum going!

Thank you to all the families and community partners who made Read, Renew, Repeat a fun-filled summer of books, creativity, and discovery!
